Tell us about yourselves and what you do.

We are four young guys who all met at church. Two of us grew up rurally in New Zealand and inherited the love of hunting and the outdoors from our parents. The other two came over from South Africa more recently and have enjoyed getting more into the outdoors driven by interests of photography and filming and hunting. We all have a desire to share what we do with more people and widen the knowledge around the conservative impact of responsible recreational hunting as well as the comradery it can build.

How did you get into hunting?

Callum – I got into hunting with my dad and brothers, it was something that we could do together to unwind and get out of the business of life. I always loved getting away with them all regardless of what kind of hunting trip it was.

Hamish – I started hunting with pest control around the farm with my dad and brothers on which led into duck hunting when we were old enough to partake.

Sebastian – When I moved to New Zealand I started in a job where I was exposed to hunting and the outdoors as well as people with similar passions. This grew my desire to get out hunting and experience nature more intimately.

Liam – I have always had a love for photography and the outdoors and my love for hunting has grown stronger through photographing friends hunting and spending more time experiencing it for myself

What do you enjoy most about hunting outdoors?

Callum – I love the time spent with the people I hunt with and the comradery it brings as well as sharing the spoils of the hunt with friends and family when we get home. I also have a special love for seeing how animals behave and observing the interaction of nature as a whole.

Hamish – It’s never just about the hunt, it’s getting out there and enjoying it with the best people and making memories that will last a lifetime.

Sebastian – The quality time with the people I am with as well as with myself. I enjoy finding the animals and observing more so than any other part of it, hence why my favourite bit of kit is the binocular harness so I can observe. The nature surroundings truly make it times of being grateful and harvesting some meat for the friends and family is the bonus.

Liam – The outdoors has got this unique ability to deafen all the distractions and noise of world whilst simultaneously giving you absolute clarity of mind. An environment to build some of the best memories with the people dearest to your heart and the opportunity to provide meat for your family is truly fulfilling.

Tell us your best piece of gear and why you love it.

Callum – I love the performance hooded top, it keeps the sun completely off me with its UPF 40+ rating and hood while keeping me cool due to its breathability and light fabric. It also has anti-bacterial properties to battle the smell on longer trips.

Hamish – The puffer is incredible, it’s super light and compact and is an excellent piece of kit for those cold days no matter what type of country you are in!

Sebastian – For me it’s the bino harness. It has a great magnetised cover, rain cover, phone holder and will fit all sizes of binos. The clips on it are silent and easy to use. The design is slim and out of the way, I use it for pretty much every kind of hunt, big or small.

Liam – I love the Stealth pants - They are incredibly versatile, light and comfortable. The fabric dries super quick which is ideal for those wetter trips.

Any advice for people who want to get into hunting?

Jump into it and give it a go, get some binoculars, and walk in the outdoors just looking for things if you’re waiting for your firearms licence. Find someone to start and learn together with or even better, find someone who can pass on their knowledge and experience to you.

Tell us a story about your best hunt.

Our best hunt depends on how you define what a best hunt is, there have been many different successful hunts with different people present. However, our best hunt for us is one where we spent it all together and was one of our first hunts together down in the South Island of New Zealand. We went into the hills for a few days and had some stunning weather and viewed some animals from afar doing their thing. While we only came out with a couple of smaller animals it was a trip filled with firsts, from a first deer and a first tahr sighting to a first Doc hut stay and the first trip all together. It was a trip we will never forget.
